The meeting was called to order by John Pruitt at 6:30 p.m.  The flag salute was lead by Carl Boruck and an Inspirational Moment was given by Bill Woods.  John thanked Shellie Gehring for Greeting, Rick Walter for handling our money at the front desk, and Pat Swenson for scribing.

Guests were introduced:  Dee Woodbery, wife of John Woodbery.  Sandy Rose, grandmother of our guest exchange student speaker, Gabby Wright and  Samatha St. John with the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce.  No visiting Rotarians.

Announcements:

A big Thank You from the Club to Scott Becker for arranging the wonderful Christmas Party Cruise and to Alice Volpe for arranging the transportation from Kirkland to downtown Seattle waterfront.  Also, thank yous to Rick Walter for arranging for the live music and to Dave DeBois for the center piece decorations.  The general sentiment of the Club was that everyone had a great time and we would like to do it again next year, but leave from the waterfront in Kirkland.

Ann Hamilton thanked everyone who has contributed to Rotary International Foundation and to let everyone know that matching points are available for all November and December contributions.  We are currently at 46% participation of the membership.

Dave DeBois for Dan Bartel announced our next Rotary 1st Harvest will be January 11th.  Dave also said the John Muir gift givers list has been updated and that there are still items that need to be donated.  If shopping is not on your list of things to do, you can also contribute dollars $$$ to Dave and he will do your shopping.  Deliveries to the families will be on Friday, December 20th.  Scott Becker and Angela will help with the delivers.  Thank you to both.  Dee Dee and Chris are not available for deliveries this year, but a Big THANK YOU from the Club for their past service on this project.

Steve Shinstrom thanked everyone who has Scribed and Greeted this past year (our last meeting of the year) and asked everyone to look over the upcoming dates and help out.

Bill Woods wanted the Club to know that the Wreaths Across America project was very successful and about 3,000 wreaths were distributed to our veterans’ graves.

Don Dicks also asked members to review the information from Dave Asher for Kirkland Nourishing Network and distributing food to the families during the holiday school break.  There are any one of three roles that you can play to help:  Donate funds, purchase food items or deliver food items to the families.  Please consider helping and let Dave Asher know if you can.

Don Dicks also mentioned Rotary 1st Harvest gift certificates in the name of your donor are great gift ideas.  $1 of donation buys $30 worth of food.

Special Announcements:

Bob Webb lead the Club members in four (4) Christmas Carols:  Rudoph the Red Nosed Reindeer, White Christmas, Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.  Good voices raised by all (almost).

Happy Dollars were collected by our own fabulous Rick Walters---lots of happy members.  The dollars collected went to our food servers at the Woodmark for their annual Christmas bonus from the Club members.  A Big Thank You to Joe and his people.  Everyone was particularly happy about the steak!

Special Guest Speaker:

John Woodbery introduced an Exchange Student from 6 years ago from Lake Washington High School, Gabby Wright.  She shared her experiences during her year in Ecuador and how it changed her life.  It caused her to change her direction in her future studies and broadened her view of the world.  Gabby wanted to thank all Rotarians for giving her this opportunity.

Scheduled Speaker and Program:  Doug Wozenrak, Regional Director for the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club, introduced by Jason Overleese.  Doug wanted to thank our Club for all that we do for Boys/Girl Clubs, especially for our initial contribution to the facility and our recent capital contribution to the new Teen Center.  He talked about the many activities that are provided to kids  such as camps, athletic events, Miracle League, afterschool programs, homework studies and Tutors.   He mentioned the Boys/Girls Clubs are pretty much at capacity and viewed as a place for kids to be safe.  The cost for one child is only $36.00 a year!  Doug especially wanted to thank us for our Duck Dash contributions (he always buys a ticket) and for all that we do.  He mentioned Adult Volunteers and Mentors to the students are always welcome, especially on Early dismissal Wednesdays when capacity increases by 18%.  If you are interested in volunteering, please call the Boys & Girls Club.

Joker Pool Drawing:  The lucky ticket was Scott Becker’s, but he did not draw the Joker.  The pot is growing.

Important Reminder to All Members:  There will not be a meeting during the next two (2) weeks.  The next meeting will be on January 6, 2014.  Please make note of this!

Meeting Adjourned at 7:35 p.m.   Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to All.
