Special Monday Night Football Meeting

Rotarians started arriving at the Woodmark Hotel around 5:30 to get a good seat and prepare their plate before kickoff for the big game between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks. Focus was on the game as the Seahawks started their domination early, first with a field goal and then a touchdown. And the points kept rolling in (as the Saints were marching out of town).

At half time, President Scott Rethke officially called the meeting to order. While there was no official flag salute, the National Anthem was sung before kickoff at Century Link Field. And the inspirational moment was on the hearts of all attending (GO HAWKS). Greeter was the Scribe and the Scribe was the Greeter (that was Elizabeth Rusnak). Did she ever have an easy night!

Introduction of Visitors:

There were lots of visiting Rotarians from the Kirkland morning club. The Kirkland morning club now meets at the Heathman (same time: Tuesday at 7:15 am). No official introductions for other visitors were made.

Club Announcements:

David DuBois announced that he is putting together the list of Christmas presents needed for the John Muir Elementary families. He will be emailing that to everyone shortly and asked each person to “Reply All” to indicate what they will be purchasing. Gifts should be dropped off to David’s office at Banner Bank in Kirkland.

President Scott Rethke announced that there will be no meeting on December 9 (the day after our Rotary Christmas party).  And our last meeting of the year will be December 16th.

Alice Volpe announced that a shuttle bus has been confirmed to take Rotarians to the Christmas party on Sunday, December 8th (to the Argosy terminal in Seattle). If you haven’t signed up, contact Alice.  If you HAVE signed up, please arrive at Kirkland City Hall (main entrance, north side) no later than 4:15 pm on Sunday.  The bus will leave promptly at 4:30. If you are driving directly to the Argosy terminal in Seattle, please note that parking is scarce, and plan to board the Argosy boat by 5:30 (as it will be departing at 6 pm).

Program Speaker:

While we did not have a program speaker, we did get to enjoy some amazing football talent by the Seattle Seahawks against the New Orleans Saints. The half-time score was 27-7 (Seahawks). With 7:07 left in the third quarter, the Seahawks kicked it up another notch and squeezed in a touchdown at the field goal line. That brought the final score to 34-7. Drew Brees didn’t know what hit him that night.
