The Kirkland Rotary Club meeting of July 7, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. and was led by President, John Pruitt.
 
Just before the meeting started, Anne presented an overview of her Facebook page for the Rotary Club of Kirkland Duck Race.  Duckie has just flown in to town and is practicing to win the race.  Duckie is consulting with our sponsors to give him tips on how to win.    
 
Dan Bartel gave an overview of Rotary First Harvest.  Please put October 11, January 10, and March 14 on your calendars to participate sorting the fruits and vegetables gathered by Rotary First Harvest at the Northwest Harvest facility in Kent.
 
Visiting Rotarians:
 
Scott East is a semi-regular visiting Rotarian.  Scott is an attorney and is also a semi-regular member from the Bellevue Tuesday noon club.
Tom Callahan made up from the Mercer Island Club.  Tom’s classification is Chocolates.

Rick Walter introduced Ben Premack.  Ben is an attorney and has been proposed to be a member of the club and Rick is his sponsor.
 
On Wednesday, July 9, 2014, the Board approved Ben as a member.  This is a notice to the club of Ben’s application.  If there are any comments, please call John Pruitt.
 
Angela Marks brought Paula Antone to the club to check us out.
 
Anne Hamilton brought Simer Salusa.  Simer also works at Microsoft.
 
Announcements:
Members are needed to sell duck dash tickets at the venues.  We are selling again on Sunday at QFC.  If you wish to sell, please contact Scott Becker.  We will also need members to sell next week at the Wednesday Market.  This is an opportunity to introduce the community to Rotary because people are always asking about what is Rotary.
Jason Overleese has set-up a venue to sell ducks at Fred Meyer from 10-12 on Sunday.
 
Scott Becker congratulated Bob Cohon for his efforts to have a successful entry in the July 4th Parade.  We had 26 marching in the parade (including the official Rotary Golden Lab).  (We beat out the Kiwanians).
John and Scott pledged to have a dinner party for all members who sell over $1,000 worth of tickets.  Three members have exceeded that amount:  Bill Woods, Ernie Norehad, and Anne Hamilton.  To date the following is a tally of how many tickets are sold:
            Bill Woods team:  $2,590
            Ernie Norehad’s team:  $3,610
            Scott Becker’s team:  $1,640
            John Pruitt’s team:   $625
 
Bob Cohon is heading up the Picnic at Everest Park Pavilion on July 21 at 6:00 p.m.  There will be no meeting at the Woodmark.
 
Steve Shinstrom stood up and successfully solicited Scribes and Greeters.
 
Eric Olsen said we only have two groups left for the Golf Tournament, held at Bear Creek on Monday, August 18.
          
ProgramDr. Amy Goings, President of Lake Washington Institute of Technology gave an overview of what is happening at her institute.  LWIT has over forty technical programs and three baccalaureate degree programs.  They also have a high school within the Institute.
 
Bob Auslander successfully bought the lucky ticket for the Joker Pool and didn’t win.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:28 P.M.
