Rotary Meeting March 25, 2013 President Patti Smith opened the meeting at 6:35 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

David Aubry was our greeter, with Jerry Campo at scribe.

 Luke Olsen, home on spring break, son of our Chief Eric Olsen.

Kristi Chan, our Student of the month from Lake Washington, and her father Paul Chan.

Kristi thanked us for the opportunity to see what Rotary is about and what we do for the community.  Kristi has been accepted to the UW and will start there this fall, with the hope of going to Dental School and becoming an orthodontist.

Announcements:

Brian Tucker has forms for the Friends of Scouts Campaign.  The donations fund the local council, camps, training and outings.  Please help if you can!

Lake Union Rotary is hosting an open house at MOHAI on Lake Union, Friday, April 19th from 5:30-7:30. We are encouraged to bring guests and prospective Rotarians. More information at rotaryopenhouse.com.

Cathy DeWalt announced this year’s 10 Grands event on Sat, May 11th, 7 PM at Benaroya Hall.  We have been extended a special invitation by Rotary 4: orchestra level seats for $80pp, or orchestra level sets AND a pre-concert champagne reception in the VIP Lounge where you can meet the artists for $99pp.  The reception starts at 5:15 PM.  Make checks out to Seattle Symphony Orchestra; contact Brandon Honcoop .

Our speaker for the evening was Kurt Triplett, our Kirkland City manager.  Kurt presented the 2013-2014 Works Program, the major Financial and Political Policies. Overall, residents consider Kirkland a very good place to live. The presentation touched on many important areas:

Private Sector Partnerships to Attract Tenants to Business Districts

Complete Comprehensive Plan Update

Develop a City-Wide Multimodal Transportation Master Plan
