The May 19, 2014 Kirkland Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Scott Rethke. Bill Taylor was our Greeter and Jason Overleese – Scribe.  Bob Webb led us in the Pledge of allegiance

Announcements:
                Dan Bartel - $1,000 was donated to 3 students for the DECA finals.
                Scott Becker – Duck Dash Kickoff party date has changed from June 9th to June 16th at the WILDE ROVER.  Tickets to be distributed at the party.
                Pat Dye – This was Pat’s last meeting with the Kirkland Rotary before moving to Boise, ID.  to start a new part of her life. We will all miss her in our club, and wish her the very best in her new adventure!!
 
Speaker: Kirk Adams – CEO – Lighthouse for the blind.
                Kirk was born in Oregon, and lost his sight at age 5. His parents moved to Aberdeen WA. For his specialized education for the blind, and then moved to Snohomish in his idle school and high school years.  He is the first blind CEO and lives with his wife in the Mt. Baker neighborhood in Seattle. The organization provides jobs and skill training for over 200 blind people in the Seattle metro area, and the manufacture products for the US military, and Boeing.  Tours are welcome, and please contact Kirk at the Lighthouse for the Blind for details.
Special Notes:
Bob Auslander spoke about his Uncle who was blinded in an accident, and between his Mother and Uncle, they created “Clairol.” Amazing story!!
