Rotary Club of Kirkland

Monday, September 23, 2013 Meeting

President Scott Rethke called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.  Mike Hunter led us in the Pledge.

Guests included Kevin & Lexie Gasseling; Gary Wagner, a neighbor of Terry Cole’s; and Bill Branvold, a principle trombone player with the Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra.

Bill informed us that the orchestra is now using a new model to re-form itself with the main support being from the musicians themselves.  The orchestra will have a fundraising event this Sunday afternoon, September 29, from 3 to 6 PM at the Temple B’nai Torah at 15727 NE 4th in Bellevue.  There will be live chamber music and a chance to talk with some of the musicians about the new orchestra.

Announcements:

Dan Bartel announced a First Harvest work day on Saturday, October 12th.  Meet at 8:00 AM at the Houghton Park & Ride for a fun day packing various food items down at the warehouse in Kent.

Bill Woods said the great wine he had at the week-end tasting event has ruined him for the $10 stuff he usually buys, so Brandon Honcoop should be fined for serving such a fine wine.

Jim Going heard an interview by Makaylaa Powers on NPR and complimented her accomplishments with her management of the Visiting Angels.

Program:

President Scott introduced Aurora Sedmak, who he met at Lake Washington High School a few years ago.  Aurora was a Student of the Month at our Club in 1997 and now she is a Naturopathic Doctor with her own practice in Bellevue.

Aurora gave us an introduction to naturopathic medicine, the approach to treatment of illnesses with particular emphasis on fatigue.  Her focus is on other treatment methods besides drugs and surgery.  Many of her patients come through referrals and she actually answers the phone and runs her business as one person, which allows her to spend more time with patients.

Thanks Aurora for an excellent introduction to naturopathic medicine.

Joker Pool:

Scott Becker had the lucky ticket but failed to draw the Joker.

President Scott adjourned the meeting at 7:30 PM.
