Venue Survey Responses Due Friday
The club is conducting a venue survey this week, after the conclusion of the second meeting at Madison House, to determine members' opinions of Madison House as a meeting venue. The survey has been sent to 25 members who have attended at least one of the meetings at Madison House, and responses are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 11. Please respond to the survey so that the club's board and membership are informed of your views regarding holding meetings at Madison House.
Kirkland Waterfront Car Show Booth
The Kirkland Downtown Association's Classic Waterfront Car Show will provide club members an opportunity to promote the work of Rotary in the Kirkland community on Sunday, August 13, 2023. The car show brings in around 10,000 visitors annually, and is touted as one of the best in the region with over 300 cars on display and over 30 vendors. Rick Walter is the club lead on this Rotary promotion activity, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members helping at the Rotary Booth can promote Rotary while spending the afternoon browsing, eating, and talking to owners and restorers, connecting with participants, getting up close to a wide display of classic, antique, muscle, and new high-performance vehicles, and sharing the Rotary story with local businesses involved in the show. CLICK HERE to sign up to join Rick in the booth on August 13.
Register for the Salmon Bake July 28!
Invitations to register for the 2023 Salmon Bake went to club members from ClubRunner on August 1. Again this year, the Rotary Salmon Bake will be held at the Auslander Home on Yarrow Point. The reviews from last year's event were so positive that the same caterer has been engaged for the event, the menu will be repeated this year, and the cost has been held to $35. Similar to last year, Rotarians are invited to bring side dishes and refreshments. Please coordinate those items through this year's club services chair, Doug Evanson. Registration for the dinner is through the ClubRunner events system, and the deadline for the catering count is August 23, 2023. This year a frozen margarita bar, courtesy of our host and club president, will be offered until supplies run out.
Scholarship Spotlight: Allan Diaz
Allan Diaz is a hard worker and is proud of many of his accomplishments. Allan’s the president at Latino Peer Council, finds opportunities for Latino students wanting to pursue a higher education, and is glad to be able to make a safe place for many Latino students at the school. Another accomplishment of which Allan's proud is being able to work at church whenever they are celebrating holidays, giving time and helping with serving food, placing decorations, and also cleaning up in the church. Allan plans to use Rotary Business & Accounting Scholarship funds to pursue a higher education at Seattle Pacific University, and to earn a degree in business. With that degree, he plans to become an accountant and help people in the community with financial problems. Allan is a recipient of the $5,500 Rotary Club of Kirkland Business & Accounting Scholarship sponsored by Rick Walter & Hutchinson & Walter, CPAs.
Rotary's Four-Way Test
Please Note Online Payment Options Differ
Our ClubRunner system offers members three way to pay for club activities. One is for dues and other billings, one is to register and pay for events, and one is to donate to Rotary causes. Keeping these activities separate when making payments is very important for club accounting.

Dues and other invoices may be paid with a credit card by clicking on the PAY NOW link in the invoice. All dues payments should be processed through the Dues & Billing System invoice link. Once the invoice is paid, it should be deleted and not used for any other payments.

Rotarians may register themselves and guests for events using the Events & Volunteer system. If an event has a registration button on the website, then registration has been turned on. If there is a fee associated with the event, then the registration will include a payment option, usually by credit card. Once the registration and payment are complete, the system generates a confirmation and receipt for the registrant.

Club Attendance for June 2023
The club held five meetings during June 2023. Overall club attendance for the month was 52%, an increase over the prior month, but impacted again by less than one-third of the members participating in another rummage sale "all-teams" meeting, which was somewhat offset by high attendance at the Leadership Transition Dinner. The club's membership concludes the Rotary year, which is July through June, at 36 active members.
Bulletin Readership for June 2023
Club members' readership of the bulletin, The Spokesman, in June was again noticeably higher than the four months preceding May. Readership rates were 80%, 80%, 86%, and 71% for the four editions. A bulletin is "read" when the email containing it is opened by the recipient.
Thank you to all of our Great Kirkland Rotary Rummage Sale sponsors!
