Next Regular Rotary Club of Kirkland
Meeting is Monday, July 10, 2023

There is no meeting on July 3 due to the holiday!
The July 10 meeting is an online (Zoom only) meeting!

Many, many thanks to all of the club members, past members, family members, and community volunteers who made this rummage sale event such a wonderful experience. The club's transition from the Great Puget Sound Duck Dash to the Great Kirkland Rotary Rummage Sale added a remarkable value-add to our main fundraising effort: providing needed goods to people in our community who may not have another avenue to obtain things they need or want to live better lives. What a wonderful experience for the club members, volunteers, and shoppers. View more photos on the club's photo gallery by clicking below.

Help Boost Our Social Media Presence
Many of our Rotarians, like others in our community, are social media users, especially if there are grandchildren involved. Our experience this month taught us many things, among them that a strong social media presence will help the club with its community service work and its fundraising projects. As the club builds social media connections, especially in the greater Kirkland area, you can help. If you have a Facebook account, a Twitter account, or a Nextdoor account, you can boost the club's visibility if you "like" and "share" the pagesand posts with your own social media connections.

Our club is currently using three platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Nextdoor. If you click on the images below, each will take you to the Rotary Club of Kirkland page for that site where you can like or follow the club's page and posts. When you see something you like or think others will like, please share it with your circle of friends. In this way, we'll spread the good word about our Rotary club's community service work, and develop a much broader audience for our rummage sale and other service activities.

Rotary's Four-Way Test
Farewell to Rotary Friends
Our new Rotary year brings warm greetings to a returning member, and fond farewells to those who are leaving the club. Today, four of the club's number are leaving membership for retirement, to tend to families and business, or to tend to health challenges. The club bids farewell to friends who will not continue with us as we begin 2023-2024:
  • George Anderson
  • Al Hoviland
  • James Nevers
  • Karin Quirk
In addition, long-time Rotarian and the club's first woman president, Sandy Ekins, was elected to honorary membership by the board of directors and begins her new relationship with the club this month. Congratulations, Sandy! The Rotary Club of Kirkland's new year begins with 32 active members and one honorary member.
Alert! Rotary Meetings at Madison House
The Rotary Club of Kirkland will be holding meetings at the Madison House facility in Totem Lake. The Rotary board decided to hold two in-person meetings, the first on Monday, July 17, and the second on Monday, August 7, to develop a sense of the venue and the menu. Menu specifics, including refreshments, and dinner pricing is being arranged and will be reported in an upcoming edition of The Spokesman.
Member Surveys Coming in July
In order to better approach the new Rotary year, each Rotarian will be sent a simple SurveyMonkey questionnaire asking that you select two committees on which to serve in 2023-2024. The major options are the Rotary Avenues of Service committees: club service, community service, international service, youth service, and vocational service. In addition, there are other committees such as membership and programs and speakers through which to contribute your time and talent for the betterment of the club. These standing committees are separate from the rummage sale teams to which we've assigned ourselves this season. Please respond to the survey so that the club's volunteer structure is established before the summer is out.
