Rotary Club of Kirkland Scholarship Presentations
Rotarians, it’s time to announce the 2020-21 scholarship awards! The Rotary Club of Kirkland Vocational Service Committee completed scholarship application reviews and interviews. Of the 36 students who started applications, 18 submitted them. The interview teams selected 16 students to receive awards totaling $20,000. Here are the sixteen awardees for the 2021 scholarships:

- Emma Sammons, Juanita High School, Kirkland Rotary Scholarship

- Jessica Fuentes-Cerdas, Lake Washington High School, Kirkland Rotary Diversity Leadership Scholarship
- Lucia Isabella, Lake Washington High School, Kirkland Rotary Scholarship
- Barbara Lomeli, Lake Washington High School, Kirkland Rotary Scholarship
- Nelly Mex Canul, Lake Washington High School, Kirkland Rotary Step Scholarship
- Robin Ying, Lake Washington High School, Kirkland Rotary Business & Accounting Scholarship
- Zainab Al Zoubaidi, Lake Washington Institute of Technology, Kirkland Rotary Technical Education Scholarship
- Karla Pastrana, University of Washington, Kirkland Rotary Step 2 Scholarship
Last year, individual Rotarians more than matched the club’s $10,000 scholarship allocation, boosting the scholarship program over $20,000. This year, the club’s allocation is $7,000. plus the scholarships carried over from last year, plus new donations raised the club's program up to $24,000. Thank you to Bob and Gail Auslander, Russ and Tricia Stromberg, Hutchison & Walter and Rick Walter, Margie Glenn, Darcia and Gary Tudor, and Gary and Sue Cohn for contributing again this year to expand the scholarship program.
Thank you to the members of the interview teams who carry out the scholarship applicant evaluations: Mike Hunter (Lead), Kristin Olson, Patti Smith for Juanita High School; Brandon Honcoop (Lead), Scott Becker, Rich Bergdahl, James Nevers, and Tricia Stromberg for Lake Washington High School and Emerson High School; and Darcia Tudor (Lead) and Brian Tucker for Lake Washington Institute of Technology. And another thank you to everyone who participated in the last Duck Dash project to raise funds for the club's general scholarships!
