Announcements:

Curing Famine, One Family at a Time:  As part of the Kirkland Nourishing Network, the Rotary Club of Kirkland has adopted a John Muir family who qualifies for the free and reduced lunch program for twelve weeks.  Our family has two adults and two children, ages five and ten.

The food will supplement the children’s not having breakfast and lunch provided on the weekends.

Next week, Anne Hamilton will pass out lists of the foods that will be provided and members can sign up to bring food to each of the next twelve meetings, purchase the food at Costco, put the food into packages, store the cases of food, and/or deliver the food to Kathy Dryden before 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.

District Get Together  Will be at Hale’s Ales on Wednesday, April 4 at 5:00 p.m.

Cynthia Fitzgerald announced a luncheon to support Mary’s Place, a weekday program that provides a welcoming and accepting environment where homeless women and their children can build community, enrich their days and find resources to restore their lives.  The luncheon will be Wednesday, May 16, 2012 noon - 1pm at the Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center.  Cynthia is hosting a table and would love Rotarians to join her.

Rotary District 5030 Conference will be April 20-22 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the beautiful Coeur d’Alene Resort.  Register at:

http://www.rotary5030conference2012.org.

The cost of the conference is $275.  Hotel rooms are $99 each for non-view rooms and $129 for a luxury view room and you will need to call the hotel directly at 1-800-688-5253 to make reservations.  Be sure to mention “Rotary 5030” in order to receive the Rotary rate.  There will be a golf tournament on Friday morning at one of the top resort golf courses in the United States with a floating green.

Program:

The Superintendent of Lake Washington School District was unable to attend.

Even though we are in the midst of tax season, our member, CPA Rick Walter, shared tax tips.  The first questions were about how he charged his fees.  Rick said the returns are usually between $400 and $800, with the mean at $450 and $700 is the average.

Rick does both individual and business returns.  His approach is to be aggressive, but still sleep at night and avoid wearing an orange jumpsuit.

If you wish to follow Rick’s blog about taxes, go to HutchCPA.com and click on blog in the upper right hand corner.

Joker Pool:  Tonight, there was $2559 in the Joker Pool and only twenty tickets left.  Scott Becker bought the lucky ticket and didn’t win the pool.  The pot increased by $110 tonight.  Next week it will increase by around that much and there will only be nineteen tickets left.  Remember, you get half of the proceeds if you draw the joker.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 P.M.
