The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting at The Woodmark Hotel on August 16, 2021. Rotarians attended in person; online attendance has been paused for the summer.

President Dave DeBois rang the bell at 6:30 p.m., calling the club meeting to order.

Past President James Nevers led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Attending were George Anderson, Scott Becker, Rich Bergdahl, Terry Cole, Dave DeBois, Don Dicks, Mike Hunter, James Meniketti, Amy Mutal, James Nevers, Rick Ostrander, Joanne Primavera, Steve Shinstrom, Patti Smith, Rick Walter, and John Woodbery.

Guests:

President Dave introduced Pete Anderson, who has applied for membership in the club, Matthew Colpitts, who will be speaking to the club in September, Julie Natale, and Jim Bosler.

Announcements:

President Dave called on Patti Smith, who updated members on details of the baby shower for James Nevers and his wife on Monday, August 23.  Patti circulated again the sign up to guess the baby’s weight, date and hour of arrival, and to suggest a boy’s name.  Gifts are optional.

President Dave called on Amy Mutal, who announced that she has Duck tickets for anyone who wants to sell them. She credited Mike Hunter with sales at the Kirkland Wednesday Market and the Car Show. Mike then invited members to come to the Wednesday Market.

Program:

President Dave introduced the speaker, Bonnie VeVea, who began MEOW Cat Rescue as a non-profit a few years ago after seeing a woman and her daughter trying to give away kittens at a Petco store.  The mission of MEOW is that no pet will be euthanized, rather all efforts will be made to help abandoned pets be adopted or kept at MEOW.  A short video explained MEOW’s efforts to find homes for pets and gave examples of dogs and cats that have been helped, even one dog that was provided “back wheels” so he could walk again.  An annual fundraiser helps provide the funds for MEOW. Thank you to Bonnie, who did a wonderful job of explaining MEOW’s mission!

Joker Pool:

Jim Meniketti’s ticket was drawn from the tumbling box, which earned him $10. He had no luck pulling the Joker from the deck.

Adjournment:

President Dave rang the bell at 7:25 p.m. to adjourn the meeting.

Respectfully Submitted
