The club’s International Committee met this week under the leadership of Joanne Primavera, and welcomed two guests from the Rotary Club of Donaris Galati, Romania. The Donaris Galati club members are raising funds for the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and would like Kirkland to partner with them. The Romanian club has completed two projects and is hoping to submit a Global Grant for more equipment for NICU.
On other fronts, Kristin Olson is in touch with the president of the Rotary Club of Costa Legra in Mexico. The club is seeking partners for projects at the local high school. In addition, Bella Chaffey is working with a member of the Rotary Club of Renton, Pauline Kamanja, who founded a school in Nairobi, Kenya. This year, Pauline is seeking funds for a women’s empowerment project, and continuing to develop Rotary grants for the school, especially a Water, Sanitation, and Health (WASH) Rotary global grant to bring water to the community and school. The International Committee agreed to give $500 to the PAC Model United Nations students who presented to the club on July 27 to support their virtual conference in November.
