·         Championing affordable housing in the city with projects such as Plum Court and the South Kirkland Park and Ride Transit Oriented Development.

·         Advocating for a Council Ethics Policy and Code of Conduct.

·         Working to save a number of public art installations and advocating for bike and pedestrian safety.

·         Becoming an early supporter of the Kirkland Teen Union Building (KTUB) and both the youth and senior councils.

·         Serving on the city's Finance Committee that helped ensure Kirkland's AAA S&P rating and clean audits, even during an economic downturn.

·         Mayor Joan McBride announced that she will not run for re-election in November but will be doing some international traveling.  However, this humble Scribe believes that we will see Ms. McBride is some other political or service arena in the future.

Joker Pool:  This month’s Joker Master, Tim Kehrli had Mayor McBride pull the lucky ticketholder, Bob Cohon.  Alas, Bob drew a Five of Clubs.

Patti adjourned the meeting at 7:43 p.m.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF KIRKLAND IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS WHO FOSTER THE IDEAL OF SERVICE AS A BASIS OF WORTHY ENTERPRISE

How to Propose a New Member:

According to Rotary International and our club guidelines, the following is the correct method of proposing a new member for Rotary.  Invite a prospective member to attend at least 3 club meetings.  REMEMBER, proposal of a new member is confidential until approved by the board.

1.  Submit the proposed members name to the club secretary in confidence.  Do not have the prospect sign the application for yet.

2.  The secretary will then submit the name to the board for membership & the board will vote.

3.  Once the member is approved by the board, the sponsor needs to have prospective member sign the form allowing their name to be published for general membership approval.  This does not yet mean you can tell them they have been approved for membership.
