President Scott Rethke called the June 9, 2014 Kirkland Rotary meeting to order at 6:34p.m.  Jim Going led the Pledge of Allegiance, Carl Borak was the greeter, Scott Becker manned the front desk and Rich Bergdahl gave an inspirational moment recognizing Bill Wood’s military service during World War II.

Visitors & Visiting Rotarians:  Our visiting Rotarian was Doug Seto from the Seattle 4 club.  Visitors included Gail Auslander (guest/spouse of Bob Auslander), Karen Dunn (guest of _______), Loretta Marsh Brown (guest and mother of Rich Bergdahl), and our very own Tyson.  President Scott welcomed Al Hoviland and Alice Volpe back from their extended time in Kauai.

Club Business and Announcements:
  • Rick Ostrander announced that Pat Swensen is much improved and will be returning to Rotary!  Rick also indicated he talked with Pat Dye, and that she has successfully moved to Boise.  Pat invited us to stop by when we are in the area.
  • Steve Shinstrom indicated that he is looking for scribes and greeters.  Please sign up if you haven’t already done so.
  • Scott Becker reminded our membership and friends that the Duck Dash Kick-off is this coming Monday, June 16th at the Wilde Rover.  The event starts at 6:00p; however, Scott encouraged everyone to drop by early.  Dinner cost will be the same as the Woodmark.  Bring your Meal Card or a check for $25/person.  We will not be able to process charge cards!
  • Rick Ostrander distributed Duck Dash tickets.  Rick indicated that we are responsible for selling tickets, turning in the ticket stubs/cash and accounting for all tickets.  There are rumors that Ernie Norehad has been pre-selling tickets.  Also, Duck Dash team assignments were announced and a list distributed.
  • Patty Sims announced a very successful Miracle League season.  Patty indicated that Troy Brockway, son of Chuck Brockway, attended every game.  She thanked the many volunteers.  The club thanked Patty for her many hours of volunteerism.
  • John Pruitt announced the new Board Planning Retreat was held this past Saturday.  He thanked the new Board for their participation and ideas presented at the retreat.
  • President Scott reminded the membership that the Transition Dinner will be held Monday, June 30th at the Woodmark.  Scott asked the membership to invite Past-Presidents and guests.  The social hour is to start at 5:30p with the buffet dinner available at 6:15p.  Friends & family members are welcome!
  • Save the dates:  The July 4th Parade and Duck Dash Sales will be held July 4th from about 10:30a until 5:00p.  We need your support for the D.D.!

Program:  Jason Overleese introduced Dr. Michael Woo, N.D., LAc as our speaker.  Dr. Woo is a primary care physician in Naturopathic medicine and a Licensed Acupuncturist in the state of Washington.  He supports a general practice with an emphasis on Environmental Medicine, specializing with people with chemical sensitivities and toxicities, with exposures to chemicals that may contain heavy metals, solvents and/or pesticides from their homes, occupational environment or travels.

Dr. Woo has been in the medical-health field since 1986.  He was an athletic trainer and educator for amateur and professional teams in British Columbia while obtaining his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology.  He has been in private practice as well as worked in the hospital and university setting.

Joker Pool:  This meeting’s Joker Master, Scott Becker had Dr. Woo pull the lucky ticketholder, Rick Ostrander.  Alas, Rick drew a Nine of Clubs.

President Scott adjourned the meeting at 7:31p.

Scribe for a day, John Pruitt
