The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Brezza Condominium and with the Zoom platform. Highlights included several changes in officer positions for the 2024-2025 Rotary year and determining to stick with the current leadership transition plan (see the related story in this edition of The Spokesman), action on banking and investment activities, and reports from various officers and committee chairs.The board approved establishing debit cards for each of the major bank accounts (operations, service, rummage sale) so as to make the accounting more accurate and tracking expenses effective, and temporarily moving limited funds from the High Yield Saving Account to the Rummage Sale Account to accommodate pre-sale business expenses.
Directors reviewed the status of prospective members, approved one for recommendation to the membership pending completion of the third meeting visit, and agreed to remove one non-responding candidate from further consideration.
The club's next three meetings are to be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Kirkland. Previously the board set the fee for the Outstanding Educator Award dinner at $40. After discussion on the nature of the meal and the events, the dinner fee was set at $50 for the Rotary Scholar Awards Ceremony & Dinner, and at $60 for the Leadership Transition Ceremony & Dinner, with upgrades in meals and beverages commensurate with the nature of the events.
Directors reported on progress in determining a new venue (the Eagles, l’Experience Paris, and Sparrow are considered). Five members will dine at Sparrow later this month. Directors discussed topics raised by two club members; consideration of holding a long-term planning session in particular to involve new members, changing back to meeting in-person on all Mondays, and requiring all meeting attendees to pay the meal fee to ensure adequate revenue to the club and the venue. No action was taken on the topics at this meeting.

The next board meeting, which is the last of this Rotary year, is expected to be held at a nearby restaurant (a Zoom option may not be available).
