The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting on October 10, 2022 at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

Kristin Olson rang the bell at 6:15 p.m., calling the club meeting to order. President Amy Mutal was absent due to a positive COVID test.

Joanne Primavera led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Attending were George Anderson, David Aubry, Doug Evanson, Margie Glenn, Jim Meniketti, Kristin Olson, Rick Ostrander, Joanne Primavera, John Pruitt, and John Storbeck.

Guests:

There were no guests this evening.

Greeters:

Jim Meniketti manned the front desk; Doug Evanson assisted with greeting attendees.

Announcements, Club Business, Committee Reports:

We wished President Amy a speedy and successful recovery.

Joanne Primavera announced that she and Patty Shinstrom have met with the principal at John Muir Elementary in an effort to restart the Reading Buddies program.  Joanne will be sending out an email to gauge interest; she and Patty are willing to move forward if a few people will commit to participating. [Reading Buddies involves working with a group of 3-4 kids at lunch time and discussing a book chosen by the kids.  The kids are recommended by their teachers for participation and have agreed to participate.]

Dave Aubry again reminded everyone that the Kirkland Rotary Foundation Social and Auction is coming up, October 22, 5:30 p.m., at St John’s Church at 105 State St. in Kirkland.  Dinner and wine or beer or soft drinks – only $10 per person plus one item to auction!  This is a great deal – and always lots of fun, plus we will make a few thousand for a good cause.

Happy Bucks:

There were no Happy Bucks this evening.

Program:

Because our scheduled speaker cancelled at the last minute, Kristin led us in a game.  Everyone took as many sheets of toilet paper “as they thought they would need”, and the number of sheets were revealed to be the number of things about oneself that one had to share with the group.  [Your correspondent, with rare prescience, took two sheets!]  We learned a lot of interesting things about our members – one person has both sung and acted on stage, one person was born in Bakersfield, CA, one person inadvertently rode, at the age of 2 or 3, for about five miles on the bumper of a car.

Adjournment:

After many laughs and gasps of astonishment, the meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted

Dave Aubry, Acting Scribe
