The Rotary Club of Kirkland will continue to meet on Mondays at the Courtyard by Marriott at 11215 NE 124th Street in Kirkland for the near term. During a special meeting drawing 43% of the club's membership, Rotarians considered the results of the club's latest member survey on meeting location, considered the offer extended by the Kirkland Woman's Club, and unanimously decided the best option is to remain at the Courtyard. The hotel is providing the club a 20 person minimum at $25 per person plus tax and a 22% service charge, totaling $33.61 with all taxes and fees. The individual meal charge without a Dinner Ticket remains $35.00, although club members entertained options for offsetting low enrollment driven primarily by COVID-19 impact.
President Dave DeBois announced that the 2022 Duck Dash would be held during Kirkland's Summerfest , which is planned for July 29-31, 2022 this year. Rotarians will want to save the date, Saturday, July 30, 2022 in anticipation of confirmation from the Summerfest organizers. During the Rotary Club of Kirkland Board of Directors meeting in January, the board determined to reduce the number of racing ducks to 6,000, and seek a summer venue again. Rotarians may expect to see Duck Dash 2022 preparation news beginning in March. Gary Cohn has agreed to take on the role of Head Duck this year, in concert with his expected transition from vice president to president-elect in July.
Kirkland Rotary, I hope this email finds you all well! Today I just finished my first quarter of my sophomore year at UW Tacoma. I am happy to report that two out of the three finals I took have been graded and in both I got a passing grade. Philosophy a B- and Conservation Biology A-. Additionally, I was notified by the University that I was once again awarded the Deans Lists for my spring quarter of 2021. This is the second time I get the honor of being a part of the Deans list. As for my non-academic side of life I am currently interning with the Seattle Art Museum as alumni and second leader for their Teens Arts Group (TAG). As the second leader and alumni for TAG I serve as a mentor and help my boss run the program both behind the scenes and in front. I've helped the SAM interview candidates for TAG and currently making the program`s schedule along side many other major things. Happy Holidays to all of you and thank you once again for my scholarship! Sincerely,
I am so grateful for the Rotary scholarship and the help it has been for me as I begin my college journey. I recently completed my first quarter at Seattle Pacific University and am taking several classes to fulfill prerequisites for the nursing major along with other exploratory courses. I have felt incredibly supported by so many at the University, by close friends, family, and peers and from people and organizations like the Rotary Club who all choose to kindly give their support and guidance during my time in college. It has been a great first quarter and I look forward to what’s to come! Thank you, Kirkland Rotary, for providing students like me an opportunity to tackle college with greater ease! I appreciate your contribution and Happy Holidays. Thank you,
