Outstanding Educator 2023, Lake Washington High School
Carl “C.J.” Green, career and technical education teacher
Lake Washington High School
Christine Bell, principal

Carl “C.J.” Green teaches career and technical education courses, especially marketing and business classes, at Lake Washington High School and is the LWHS Black Student Union Advisor.  He co-leads the school’s Racial Equity Team and is a strong advocate for, and coach of, the LWHS DECA program. Mr. Green also serves as an assistant coach for the Kangaroo’s football team.

In addition to his leadership in these areas, Principal Christine Bell notes what stands out about Mr. Green is his thoughtful and reflective nature.  He listens carefully, particularly to students, and is a leader on our staff.  She says you'll often find him supervising concessions so that his clubs can earn funds for trips, managing the student store, or teaching students how to plan for and run their own businesses.

As a leader in the community, Mr. Green and his Black Student Union visited Audubon Elementary in February.  They led an assembly and asked students to consider what power students have to create a more just and equitable future.  They created positive connections with Kirkland youth that will benefit our future student leaders.

Lake Washington High School Staff and Faculty were proud to nominate C.J. Green for the Outstanding Educator Award, and the Rotary Club of Kirkland is proud to honor him with the award.
