Cameron is an exceptional educator who not only teaches students to be musicians, but also teaches students how to be thriving and productive members of the school community, reports Kirkland Middle School Principal Nikki Cassaro. She notes Cameron places a great amount of attention on building a community, and creating an environment that is safe, positive, and welcoming. Nikki describes students feeling a sense of belonging in Cameron’s classroom, during and outside of class time. From a music standpoint, Cameron has repeatedly shown his dedication and skill as a conductor. He selects a wide variety of music that challenges and grows students. His instructional skills shine through on a daily basis. He uses a number of innovative teaching strategies to strengthen student’s music reading skills as well as student performance skills. Many smiles and laughs occur in Cameron’s classroom, even when students are learning to play difficult pieces. Students in Cameron’s band program have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of festivals, competitions, and events as well as to host a number of concerts at KiMS each year. Cameron brings joy and enthusiasm to all of these events and celebrates each group’s performances and achievements with them. In addition, Cameron is innovative and family focused. He began livestreaming concerts this year so family members who live outside of the area can attend. In sum, Cameron is incredibly dedicated educator who demonstrates positivity and passion for students and their learning each and every day. Students grow into musicians in his classroom and develop a love of music as a result of spending time learning with Cameron. KiMS is so lucky to have such a dedicated and skilled teacher as part of its teaching team.
