Exploration, commercialization, and militarization of space
Linda Dawson will present to Rotarians a program that surveys the history of human space exploration and its connection to politics, explains NASA’s goals for space exploration, and highlights aspects of the commercialization and militarization of outer space.
 
Former NASA engineer Linda Dawson is an author, speaker, science educator, and STEM advocate. Linda has over ten years experience as an engineer in industry, having worked as an aeronautical flight controller on the NASA Space Shuttle Program in Houston, then as a navigation and guidance engineer at the Boeing Space Center in Washington. Linda has taught and developed curriculum for mathematics, physics, statistics, engineering, and space science courses at several colleges in the Puget Sound area including the University of Washington and the University of Puget Sound. After teaching at UW|Tacoma, Linda was granted Senior Lecturer Emeritus status upon her retirement in 2017. She is the author of three books on space exploration and the politics of outer space. Her latest project involves telling the stories of women in air and space from a personal perspective.
 
Linda earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics from George Washington University at the NASA Langley Research Center, and has completed Ph.D. program coursework in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering at the University of Washington.
