Political columnist breaks down election 2020
Long-time political reporter Jerry Cornfield will speak to Rotarians on the state and regional results of the 2020 general election, offering the perspective of a seasoned investigative reporter and columnist.  Cornfield brings to the table three decades of reporting on politics, elected officials, government, and elections during this exceptional opportunity for Rotarians to gain insight into the election results.

Jerry began as a sports reporter for the Concord Daily Transcript in Northern California, and worked at newspapers throughout the San Francisco region before moving to Santa Barbara in 1990 as a Santa Barbara News-Press reporter.  He joined the staff of the Santa Barbara Independent in 1994 to cover community, state, and federal politics.  From 1998 to 2003, he produced and hosted a morning radio talk show, The Voice of Santa Barbara, on KEYT Newsradio 1250.  For the final three years, the show also was simulcast on KEYT Channel 3 television, an ABC affiliate.  From July 2000 until October 2001, he also produced and hosted a weekly talk show, In Focus, on the same ABC affiliate.  While a radio and television personality, Cornfield also wrote for the Santa Barbara Independent and served as an editor-at-large for Santa Barbara Magazine.

Since 2004, Cornfield has been the statehouse reporter for The Daily Herald in Everett, Washington.  Based in Olympia, he covers the state's legislature when it is in session and the activities of state government when it is not.  He also reports on statewide elections and ballot measures.

The Daily Herald was first published on February 11, 1901, and was bought by James B. Best in 1905, whose family owned the newspaper until it was sold in 1978 to the Washington Post Company.  In 2013, it was to Sound Publishing, which also publishes the Kirkland Reporter, in which Cornfield’s stories often appear.
