The August program series, Furry Friends, highlights several animal service providers that render an array of support to the Kirkland community. On August 2, Officer Dan Hopkins and Police Dog Leo, who comprise the Kirkland Police Department K-9 team, provided a look at K-9 history, described training program highlights and safety provisions, and told a few interesting case stories. On August 9, Robert Leach will introduce Pickles Playland, a canine care and training facility newly relocated to Kirkland’s Carillon Point. Members will learn about Pickles’ approach to training, and how current lifestyles of customers shape this market and the training the Pickles team provides. On August 16, Bonnie VeVea will describe why group of volunteers formed MEOW Cat Rescue, and how in their nearly 25-year history they’ve come to place 800 – 1,000 animals a year. Thanks to Dave DeBois for designing this speaker series.
