The club’s board of directors met on Thursday evening, January 16, 2025 at the Banner Bank branch in downtown Kirkland. Highlights included acceptance of the club president's resignation from his officer position; appointment of the vice president to serve as well as president-elect; discussion about the status of event registration for the Valentine Dinner; approval of the club's level of scholarship funding for 2025; renaming of, scheduling for, and the sponsorship plan to support the rummage sale; and receiving reports from various officers and committee chairs.The treasurer reviewed an income statement for September through December 31, 2024, and a balance sheet as of December 31, 2024, noting that there still must be made a journal entry to correct one item so the balance sheet for the period is correct and completed. Directors discussed budget issues for the coming year, the possibility of using one of the certificates of deposit to fund one cycle of scholarships, and whether to continue funding the Outstanding Educator Award program. The treasurer also reported on following up the Rose Hill Middle School proposal with a visit, and determining that there is not much of a role for the foundation in the pantry project. QuickBooks uses the title “Statement of Financial Position” for the balance sheet, and “Statement of Activity” for the income statement.
The rummage sale committee is considering Kirkland Rotary Thrift Sale, Kirkland Rotary Super Sale, and Kirkland Rotary Garage Sale as titles instead of Rummage Sale. The committee is nearly settled on a three tier sponsorship structure, and is considering the idea of 100% of the sale proceeds (meaning the net profit) being committed to scholarships for easy community understanding of purpose. The board also discussed the question of continuation of the Pledge of Allegiance in the meeting agenda given the generational changes in the membership and the international nature of Rotary International. The board coalesced around reserving an upcoming club meeting for this discussion.
In other action, the board approved reimbursement for the full cost of the PETS training (which includes hotel, meals, and the actual registration cost), and the need to have members step into meeting leadership and support roles in order to hold upcoming meetings.
