Program:
Motivational speaker Nick Salmon provided the program this evening. His topic was setting and achieving goals.
The highlights of Nick’s speech were (1) Don’t confuse Goals with Dreams; (2) To Do Lists are great but they are not goals; and (3) To Do Lists are a list of tasks. SMART goals are Simple, Manageable, Accountable, Realistic, Timely, and support the best way to achieve goals:
- Believe: Believe in what you want to achieve. To do this understand “WHY” you want to do this
- Focus: New Year’s Resolutions are goals if you focus. Sticky notes are goals if you focus. Writing down a goal is a good idea if you display it where you will see it everyday AND where people who visit you will see it, discuss it, ask about it (see? Helps with focus)
- Effort: Make the goal a habit. Do not be afraid to re-evaluate or reassess your goals as you move toward achieving it.
Nick shared a “TOP SECRET TOOL TO WRITE A GOAL”:
TO: Define the goal
BY: Set a deadline
SO THAT: Write down a reason for the goal and why you believe it is needed in your life
BECOME a different person by achieving your goal
