President Amy Mutal called the meeting to order at 6:14 p.m.

Announcements, Club Business, Committee Reports:

President Amy gave us a quick recap on our monthly meeting schedule – 1st and 3rd Mondays are in person at SOI Thai Restaurant & Bar, with a speaker and our student of the month attending one of the meetings.  The 2nd Monday of the month will be virtual, on Zoom.  It is hoped that we will be able to have speakers on Zoom who might otherwise not be available locally.  This will also be the meeting where we have such functions as member classification talks, club committee reports from committee chairs, and Happy Dollars.

Joanne Primavera reported that we will have one more community service activity this coming Sunday, March 19.  At Joanne’s home, club members can help cook a ready-to-eat lunch for delivery to Helen’s Place in Kirkland. Volunteers can appear at Joanne’s home at 8:30 a.m. to start preparing the food.  She will send her address to members who volunteer (also, members’ addresses may be found in the club directory on ClubRunner).

We will be donating money to purchase a number of ShelterBox units, as previously decided, for use in the Middle East earthquake area.  We are encouraged to continue to support Vital Solutions’ work with Ukraine refugees.

Pete Anderson gave us an update on progress organizing our new annual rummage sale fundraiser.  Pete shared news we’ve applied to use some rooms at Juanita High School around the first of July.  We will no doubt need a larger room in the future as we grow the event.  There will be a meeting to discuss the nuts and bolts of the event once we get a firm date.  The Duck Dash contract has now been cancelled.  We will have a work party this Monday for about an hour, beginning at 4:30 p.m., in the storage area below Steve Shinstrom’s office on Kirkland Way.  This is so the space can be organized such that some small rummage sale items could be stored there.  All club members need to be soliciting saleable items from all sources.  A flyer announcing the event will appear shortly for members to use and distribute.  We are now waiting on a final approval of the building use application by the high school’s principal.

Rich Bergdahl has received a donation check for the Rotary International Foundation, and encourages all of us to contribute.

Scott Becker is lining up speakers for future meetings.

There is a pre-St. Patrick’s Day member and guests social event at the Shinstrom house Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m.  Bring a nibble to share and a bottle of beverage.

There is a Rotary Club of Kirkland Board Meeting at the Prevail Wealth Management office Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Gary Cohn is working to ensure that all members are receiving The Spokesman.  He sent notices to those who ClubRunner indicates did not open the last edition, asking if they received it.  It turns out some may read it in their email “preview” window, without opening the email, which ClubRunner records as “not read”.  The message is “open your Spokesman email” and, of course, read it to stay informed.

Happy Bucks:

President Amy conducted a round of Happy Dollars, collecting a over $500 in pledges of money from happy Rotarians Dave Aubry, Rich Bergdahl, Gary Cohn, Terry Cole, Don Dicks, Joanne Primavera, Steve Shinstrom, and Rick Walters.  Thank you all for your generosity!

Program:

There was no program presented at this meeting.

A number of Rotarians will gather Monday about 5 p.m. at the Q20 brew pub inside QFC, prior to our meeting at SOI Thai Restaurant & Bar.

Adjournment:

The meeting was adjourned at 7:03 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dave Aubry, Acting Scribe
