Announcements, Club Business, Committee Reports:

 

Highlights of the proposed club bylaws revisions were shared by Gary Cohn. Amendments include content following the updated constitution required by Rotary International, expansion of the areas of service committees, especially youth service, updating old language, updating membership types, updating committee descriptions and dues changes and moving them to appendices, updating the membership process, changing/clarifying the officers and directors, revising the way we elect candidates for offices and approve the selection of committee chairs, and updating and clarifying the language in the finance article.  Gary entertained a motion to adopt the bylaws revisions approved by the board on April 20, 2023 and circulated to the club members on that date, assign to the board the authority to update the appendices, and delegate to the secretary the authority to make minor corrections not affecting intent.  Don Dicks moved the adoption, and Bob Auslander seconded. All members present voted in favor of adoption, none abstained, and one member was absent. The bylaws revisions were adopted.

 

Gary noted there is a special board meeting this coming Wednesday for a vote on new officers and committee chairs to recommend to the club. This should be accomplished in December, and we’ll get it done this month.

 

Rick Walter, membership chair, noted our goal is to increase membership through the rummage sale project. We need volunteers/spouses, and plan on offering discounts on spouse membership. The group discount structure for corporate memberships is in place. The application process will be streamlined by implementing Membership Success by ClubRunner, and it provides easy online referrals and applications.

 

Pete Anderson reviewed the status of rummage sale planning. He reminded members to talk to friends, families, neighbors to contribute. Spread the word by marketing, social media, etc. Dave DeBois noted that Bernadette did an amazing job with the website. By this time next week, the Kirkland central webpage will be ready. Rashmi will handle social media such as Facebook and Instagram. Bernadette created a QR code to be used on ads and banners. 

 

Dave added that next week Evergreen Hospital is donating a large number of artwork pieces as part of its surplus process. Bob volunteered to store them at his place. Need a volunteer with truck to pick them up at 10:00 a.m. next Tuesday. Rich Bergdahl offered help with pick up.

 

Rick Walter updated members on the current thinking regarding providing food during the set-up week and the day of the sale. Rich raised the question of the banner spot reservation with the city (on Lake Washington Blvd.).

 

Finally, Pete noted the next Rummage Sale Operations Team will meet at Brezza Condominium on the 10th of May at 5 p.m. Food will be the responsibility of attendees this time.

 

Happy Bucks:

 

There were several Happy Bucks collected during this meeting. Rick Walter, Dave DeBois, Jim Meniketti, Pat Swenson, Kristin Olsen, Bob Auslander, Doug Evanson, Rich Bergdahl (on Zoom), Gary Cohn, Joselyn Ellison, and Scott Becker all contributed to the Happy Bucks contributions. Thank you all for your generosity, and congratulations to Jim and Rich on their birthdays.

 

Program:

 

Due to an unavoidable conflict, Dr. Holmen was unable to join the club for his planned update on the Lake Washington School District. His office offered to reschedule to a later date.

 

Joker Pool:

 

The Joker Pool this evening was led by Scott Becker, with some assistance from Pat Swenson. Isabella Kalisa picked Gary’s ticket from the spinner, and he won $10. He pulled out 7 of Clubs, so the pool grew by tonight’s ticket purchases (less the $10 winning).

 

There is not an in-person meeting next week, the club will meet via Zoom.
