The club’s board of directors met on Thursday evening, October 17, 2024 at Brezza Condominium in Kirkland. Highlights included discussion about the status of outstanding club dues payments, the new budget reports from QuickBooks, approval of reinstatement of a former member, and approval of revisions to several of the club's bylaws; and approval of several event registration fees and dates, discussed student of the month progress and scholarship funding, and heard reports from various officers and committee chairs. The treasurer reviewed an income statement for September through October 17, 2024, and a balance sheet as of September 30, 2024, noting that Rick Walter and he still must make a journal entry to correct one item so the report for the period is correct and completed. QuickBooks uses the title “Statement of Financial Position” for the balance sheet, and “Statement of Activity” for the income statement.
Directors agreed on pricing for the holiday dinner, Valentine Dinner, and Salmon Bake, setting the date for the latter item for two years. Directors heard from the foundation liaison regarding pending approval of the $10,000 grant application to the Kirkland Rotary Foundation board to supplement existing resources for the community service, international service, and youth service committees, as well as the foundation commitment to donate $4,500 from the auction to the club's community service priorities. Directors approved the reinstatement of a former member to membership, discussed closing two applications of prospective members in November; and approved the second of five annual $1,000 contributions to the start-up process for the Lake Washington Chapter of Music4Life.
The board unanimously approved for recommendation to membership two additional revisions to the club's Bylaws. The first is a set of revisions to Articles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to make the membership chair, programs and speakers chair, and sergeant-at-arms voting members of the board, and to clarify that vacant offices are not included in the quorum count. The second is a set of revisions to Article 10 to change the name of the "spouse/partner" membership to "partner" membership, and to clarify this means only the active member's spouse or domestic partner.
