Student of the Month Program Underway
Rotary's 2023-2024 Student of the Month program launches in September with the posting of this year's instructions and application. Due to the availability of members volunteering to work on the program, only students from Lake Washington High School are eligible to apply for the Rotary honor. The youth service committee members and high school contacts reviewed the application and interview questions for improvements, and the applications are due by October 13. The youth service committee is scheduled to interview students the morning of October 27. Do you know a student who should apply to be a Rotary Student of the Month? Referrals and questions about the Student of the Month program may be directed to the Rotary Club of Kirkland Youth Service Committee chair, Jocelyn Ellison.

Board Nominating Committee Formed

Club president Gary Cohn announced the appointment of the club's annual board nominating committee, this year comprising the president-elect, Pete Anderson, and past presidents Rick Walter and Joanne Primavera. The committee is responsible under the bylaws for organizing a proposed slate of officers and directors for the forthcoming year. The slate will consist of the president-elect, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and five members of the board of directors who are chairs of the avenues of service committees.

The president-elect automatically becomes president, and the president automatically becomes the immediate past-president. In accordance with the club's bylaws, a slate of officers should be presented to the club at the annual meeting in December. If any member is interested in serving in a particular office, please contact one of the members of this committee to make your interest known. If you know someone else who should be a candidate, submit the person's name to one of the nominating committee members. Please note that the club does not currently have a vice-president, which could affect the timing of the normal succession sequence.
September Board Meeting Highlights
The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the Brezza Condominium. Highlights included approving for recommendation to membership one of the five prospective members whose application is in the ClubRunner Membership Success system, approving the student of the month program plan, approving offering specially designed holiday cards for Rotarians to purchase, and hearing numerous reports from committee chairs on committee progress.
