The Rotary board of directors approved a special award of a Charles O. Morgan Communications Scholarship to support a Lake Washington High School junior’s participation in the Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University this coming summer.

Drew Fialho was selected as a National Youth Correspondent because of his excellent academic record and sincere interest in journalism and the media. During his high school career, Drew has been the student head of the LWHS student broadcasting program, KANG News.

The WJM Conference will provide Drew insight into careers in broadcasting and media and help him decide on a college major. He will attend educational seminars, including speeches by industry leaders, and be challenged to work with peers through simulations and group discussions. Drew will earn college credit, develop leadership skills, and gain insight into the issues surrounding careers in journalism and the media. The Rotary Club of Kirkland will provide $1,000 of the $2,300 conference tuition. Rotarians will meet Drew at the December 6 club meeting.
