Gary and Sue Cohn are leaders in the Rotary Club of Kirkland Scholarship Program. Last year the Cohns, along with Margie Glenn and Darcia and Gary Tudor, funded the Kirkland Rotary Diversity Leadership Scholarships for students attending Lake Washington and Juanita high schools. The scholarships are intended to draw students who demonstrate financial need, academic promise, a record of community service and leadership, the promise of societal contribution, and members of one or more diverse ethnic groups recognized by the state. The first recipients of the Diversity Leadership Scholarships were Tiffany Zang, who graduated from Lake Washington High School, and Emily Le, who graduated from Juanita High School. For 2021, the Cohns, Tudors, and Margie Glenn continued the scholarships and made them available to all of the eligible Lake Washington high schools. In addition, the Cohn's funded the license for the SmarterSelect scholarship management system that has permitted the club to move to an entirely digital scholarship platform.
