The Rotary Club of Kirkland held its regular weekly meeting online on December 7, 2020.
Attending were James Nevers, Dave Aubry, Joanne Primavera, Rick Walter, Dave DeBois, Bill Taylor, John Woodbery, Terry Cole, Stefan Landvogt, Bella Chaffey, Patti Smith, Don Dicks, Brandon Honcoop, Jim Meniketti, Russ & Tricia Stromberg, John Pruitt, George Anderson, Rick Ostrander, Monica Fratita, Gary Cohn, Mike Hunter, Steve Shinstrom, Rich Bergdahl, and Bob Auslander. We went to breakout rooms before the meeting started, giving everyone a chance to catch up socially with fellow Club members. My group discussed what was likely to occur over the next 6 - 8 weeks vis-à-vis the pandemic.
Each year the Rotary Club of Kirkland gathers its membership around the spirit of holiday giving, and the club’s core value of service to others before self. As the coronavirus pandemic upended plans for the club’s traditional holiday gift giving party for needy children in the Kirkland community, Rotarians decided that the tradition of helping our community through the holidays had to continue, and created the holiday gift project.
In cooperation with the Lake Washington School District, 111 family members were identified for holiday gift-giving, and are looking forward to Rotarians’ generosity of treasure, talent, and time this month.
The club’s board of directors met on the 19th of November to conduct a variety of club business. Highlights included a report on disbursement of $1,000 for an international project in Mexico, $2,950 for Nourishing Networks, and $3,500 for the Warm Coats project. Other funding opportunities were discussed (see the related article in this edition of the Spokesman), and the board approved a $500 gift to the Harvest Against Hunger food bank project. The board approved termination of a four memberships, two at the requests of members.
