November Elections Speaker Lineup
The November elections are upon us!  During the month Rotarians have the opportunity to hear and ask questions of four seasoned professionals deeply involved in politics, elections, and government history.  November's Politics & Elections Series features on November 2, election eve, Karen Waters, president of Strategies 360, a major political consulting firm in the region; on November 9, Jerry Cornfield, long-time political reporter for The Daily Herald (the parent paper to our Kirkland Reporter); on November 16, Ben Anderstone, voter behavior researcher and political analyst regularly featured on Crosscut, and on November 23, Dr. Glennys Young, a Russia and Soviet Union historian and chair of the University of Washington's History Department and professor in the Jackson School of International Studies.  For topic details and speaker background use the club website's Speakers tab.
Remember the Four-Way Test
First Rotary Virtual Wine Tasting Event
The Rotary Club of Kirkland’s very first VIRTUAL wine tasting is scheduled for November 7 at 6 p.m.  This unique event provides participants the pleasure of learning about four distinctive wines in a blind tasting curated by a Seattle-based expert.  The program is lead by an Honest to Goodness sommelier certified through the Court of Master Sommeliers.  Thirteen Rotarians registered --and three are accompanied by spouses they registered-- for the Zoom event by the close of registration today, Tuesday, October 27.  Thank you to Club Service co-chairs Bella Chaffey and Joe Getzendanner for organizing this very first virtual Rotary event, and engaging fully a quarter of our club in the process!
January Program Sneak Peek
The Rotary Club of Kirkland will enjoy three opportunities to hear from a selection of city of Kirkland staff about the police, fire, and public works and planning departments.  On January 4, Kirkland Police Corporal John Ness will brief club members on topics including community policing and the school resource officer program.  On January 11, Jeremy McMahan, deputy director of Kirkland's planning team, will update the club on major business developments and major transportation projects on the city's planning list.  On January 25, Kirkland Fire Department Chief Joe Sanford will discuss with Rotarians the impact of the fire and EMS ballot measure outcome, and the city council's most recent directions for the fire and emergency services program.  For topic details and speaker background use the club website's Speakers tab.  If you have program suggestions for future meetings, please email James Nevers.
