Meet May's Students of the Month
During May, our Rotary Club of Kirkland members will have the pleasure of meeting two more students of the month from Lake Washington School District high schools.  On May 3, the club's guest will be Robin Ying, a senior at Lake Washington High School. On May 10, the club's guest will be Jack Tidd, a senior at Juanita High School.  Please plan on joining their hosts, Mike Hunter and James Nevers, respectively, to welcome these young people to the club.
May's Program Focus: Youth & Adult Community Support Systems
In May, Kirkland Rotarians will devote program time to learning about several efforts in the community to keep adults and young people on track for success.  An exceptional and unusual combination of speakers will address an array of community support structures about which community members do not often hear discussed.  On May 3, Judge John Olson will describe the new community court operation launched by the city of Kirkland's municipal court.  On May 10, the Lake Washington School District's assistant superintendent, Matt Gillingham, will explain how the community truancy boards work to keep students in school.  And on May 17, Youth Eastside Services' Kristie Neklason, director of school-based behavioral health, will discuss the agency's programs offered in partnership with the school district and the city.  Finally, the May 24 meeting will be devoted to honoring the recipients of this year's Rotary scholarships.
Return to the Woodmark
Rotary Club of Kirkland President James Nevers has been working with staff at The Woodmark Hotel to organize a return to in-person club meetings.  At the time this Spokesman edition was published, elements of meeting resumption at the hotel included these details:
  • The first on-site meeting is scheduled for June 7, and is expected to be a "hybrid" meeting to include in-person and Zoom options.
  • Initially meetings will be sited in the Olympic Terrace Tent, which is the "outside" covered area west of the hotel building.
  • The hotel will require the club guarantee a 15-person minimum for dinner.
  • Dinner service will be buffet style.
  • Masks will be required except when attendees are eating or drinking.
  • Proof of vaccination will not be required.
Comments or questions about resumption of in-person meetings, hybrid or otherwise, should be directed to the club president, who received seven responses to his recent email to members.

James welcomes further communication from club members regarding the details of in-person meeting resumption.
