Guests this evening included Larry Logue, our speaker, who came to the meeting via Zoom. Rotary members are invited to attend a meeting of the Kirkland Rotary Foundation on Monday, April 4 directly after the meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirkland in the same meeting room at the Kirkland Marriott.
New by-laws for the Kirkland Rotary Foundation, which were approved by the foundation board, were distributed by ClubRunner email by Joanne Primavera, treasurer of the Kirkland Rotary Foundation. Two of the major changes in the by-laws are: (1) the members of the Kirkland Rotary Foundation were just the foundation board members and they were foundation board members by invitation only. The new by-laws provide any dues paying member of the Rotary Club of Kirkland may be a member of the Kirkland Rotary Foundation; and (2) the foundation board members have term limits -- one cannot be a 'member for life.'
At the April 4 meeting, foundation members will be electing three new foundation board members. The nominating committee has nominated Rick Ostrander, Patti Smith, and John Pruitt for the foundation board, all of whom have accepted their nominations. For questions about the Kirkland Rotary Foundation, contact Joanne Primavera.
The Rotary Club of Kirkland website offers club members and community members an online donation platform to contribute to Rotary projects and programs. The page is accessed by clicking on the DONATE link on the club website home banner. As a result of recent club focus on raising funds to support refugees from the war in Ukraine, an additional option was added to the donation page. The donation options are now:
Happy Bucks
Duck Dash
Rotary Scholarships
Rotary International Foundation (Paul Harris)
Rotary Club of Kirkland Foundation
Nourishing Networks
Holiday Gift
Operation Warm
Harvest Against Hunger
Ukraine Refugee Aid
After completing the personal and credit card information, donors select the amount and use the drop-down menu to select the designation. There is also a dialog box for typing in special instructions for the donation. For example, if there are two project to aid Ukrainian refugees (e.g., truck purchase, food for children), the donor should include a message identifying the purpose of the gift.
All donations should be processed through the donation page, unless an invoice has been issued through the Dues & Billing system. If an invoice has been issued, donors should use the "Pay Now" link within the invoice. Once an invoice link has been used, it should not be reused. Questions about donations may be directed to treasurer Jim Meniketti. Questions about website use may be directed to Gary Cohn.
The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, March 17, using the Zoom platform. Highlights include a healthy discussion of the Rotary meeting content, quality of speakers and student of the month presentations, and the development of the 2022-2023 board.
The treasurer’s report included an update on revenue and expense patterns, a discussion of the use of club reserves, and a discussion of the development of a 2022-2023 annual budget.
The board discussed upcoming a membership applications that would likely be submitted to the club's membership. Membership Chair Dave Aubry will follow up with potential members, and will coordinate with Dave DeBois to ensure membership coverage during Dave's upcoming trip to France.
In addition, the board reviewed the status of an upcoming club service event, and reports on the scholarship program and the speakers program. The board meeting schedule is published in the club's Calendar, including an individual Zoom link for each meeting for those who want to attend virtually. Rotarians may view this month’s board meeting minutes and those of prior meetings on the Board Minutes page, which requires a log-in. A link also may be found at the bottom of the Spokesman.
