Rotarians, the first three in-person meetings of 2024-2025 are scheduled at Kirkland area venues selected by teams of club members. The meeting dates and locations are on the club's Calendar.
The Rotary Club of Kirkland held a meeting on June 17, 2024 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Kirkland.
President Gary Cohn called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. after refreshments and appetizers, a catered dinner, and dessert were served.
Rick Ostrander led us in the flag salute. Jocelyn Ellison recited the Four-Way Test.

Our visiting Rotarian this evening was Manassey Tetteh, who was a member of Rotary Club of Accra-Osu Oxford Street in Ghana, and who has accepted the club’s offer of membership to begin on July 1 with the new Rotary year.
Rotary dues statements were sent to active members on June 1, 2024. Payments are due by Sunday, June 30, 2024. Reminder statements were mailed on June 15, and another set will be mailed on June 25 to all Rotarians with outstanding accounts. As of Thursday, July 20, 40% of club members had paid their dues. Please remember that nonpayment of dues jeopardizes membership in our Rotary club.
Dues may be paid by credit card or debit card using the online Dues & Billing System link in the June 1 invoice, or using the link in the June 15 statement, or by logging into your account on the website. Members may also pay by check through the U.S. Mail, which must reach the treasurer by June 30. (If a member is not paying via the online Dues & Billing System, he or she should have a check or cash in the treasurer’s hands by Friday, June 28.)
During the meeting of the club's board of directors on Thursday, June 13, 2024, the directors considered and unanimously approved a proposed revision to Article 4 of the club's Bylaws, Duties of Officers. The board elected to send the proposed revision to the membership via an online voting system as authorized in a recent update to the Bylaws. Ballots are due June 24, 2024. Approval will establish an ex-officio, non-voting member of the board named "club executive secretary/director". It is a support position, similar to the club's non-voting and sometimes-used sergeant-at-arms position, that is recognized by Rotary International and the holder of which RI provides access to the club's data for maintaining club data (membership, officers, etc.). The board feels this position, which may be filled from time to time as needed, is important to maintaining consistency of club records during the next few years.
Rotary Club of Kirkland Community Service Committee members gathered to spread mulch at the Hero House NW Bellevue Clubhouse in Factoria on Thursday, June 13. Community service chair Jim Meniketti, who organized the service project, reported that the club obtained a very good price on mulch from Pacific Topsoil, which deliver 15 yards of it to the site earlier in the week. Rotarians spread the mulch around the clubhouse to help give it much better "street appeal" to passersby and those who use the facility day to day.
Erisa Baba enjoys challenging herself as a student and as a person. She is interested in architecture and engineering and has been active in many related extracurriculars. Erisa has been enrolled in the Architecture Construction Engineering Mentor Program run by professionals who have insightful experience in the field. In addition to this program, she competed in a Bridge Building Competition held by the American Society of Civil Engineers, earning 3 awards (Most Efficient, Overall 3rd, and T-Shirt Award). She also took Boston Architectural College Summer Academy last year, mentored by professors with impressive understandings of the subjects. At the academy, Erisa achieved 2 Credly badges: Digital Design Basics (3D Software) and Summer Academy Foundations (60+ hours hands-on design and exercises).

The club held ten meetings during the months of April, May, and June 2024. Overall club attendance for the months were 46%, 46%, and 47%, respectively. The attendance was from 3% to 7% lower than the past year for each of the three months in the second calendar quarter. Club membership in the second quarter rose to 42 active (including honorary) members. While attendance is running behind last year's second quarter, it is ahead of the same quarter two years ago.
On December 18, 2023, our Rotary Club of Kirkland elected a slate of officers, directors, and other board members during its annual meeting and holiday party. Subsequent to that election, a few changes have occurred in members' lives that necessitated making some adjustments in who holds the offices which take effect with the new Rotary year, starting July 1, 2024. Here is the current officer and director team that will begin next month:

Highlights included briefings on account balances, dues payment status, status of rummage sale sponsorship collections, draft budget revisions, status of venue research, and reports from various officers and committee chairs.
